NFL CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP SUNDAY

This is the condensed version of picks for Sunday’s NFL conference championship games for Winners and Whiners between:

Los Angeles Rams at New Orleans Saints:

New England Patriots at Kansas City Rams (written by Chris Kubala)

Divisional round review:

And that’s the thanks I get for having faith in the Chargers. Ugh. In some ways, it was more aggravating that I only hit the Ekeler prop only because it came during garbage time and on Los Angeles’ second-to-last offensive play of the game. But hey, got the 5/5 right! (note sarcastic eye roll)

I was joking about an 0-16 week… little did I realize the betting gods saw that 8-0 Sunday mark in the wild-card round and sent a swift lightning bolt of reality my way.

Once more, THANK YOU for reading, and onto the picks!

For the individual games that have six picks, remember the 5/5 is simply the best pick of that individual game, not the entire week.

NFL DIVISIONAL ROUND PICKS

This is the condensed version of picks for Sunday’s NFL divisional round playoff games for Winners and Whiners between:

Los Angeles Chargers at New England Patriots

Philadelphia Eagles at New Orleans Saints

Wild-card round review:

Wow. I mean, just wow. Words really cannot do justice how wildly I let my ego run wild at my dive bar after rolling an 8-0 on Sunday. I was admittedly somewhat disappointed about my Colts-Texans picks, but after the Seahawks came through with a back-door cover for both the spread and the over/under, I felt a little better after Saturday’s games.

As a Jets fan who lives in Chicago, I must say the schadenfreude that came with watching Cody Parkey hit the post and then the crossbar was absolutely magnificently exquisite. More so when you actually post it on your Twitter time line before the final drive even starts. No really, go scroll through my timeline (@AlTruda73) and check the timestamp versus when the kick was made.

I’ll wait.

Anyway, all this self back-patting has set myself for an obvious 0-16 week for these four games, so the modest goal this week is 9-7 to beat the vig and have a still-impressive above-.600 percentage for the postseason. The full set of picks for the two Sunday games will come either Saturday night or Sunday morning.

Once more, THANK YOU for reading, and onto the picks!

For the individual games that have six picks, remember the 5/5 is simply the best pick of that individual game, not the entire week.

NFL Wild Card Round Picks

This is the condensed version of picks for the AFC Wild Card Round games for Winners and Whiners between:

Indianapolis Colts at Houston Texans

Los Angeles Chargers at Baltimore Ravens

Week 17 Review:

I’m ignoring all the negativity around most of my picks from last week and relying on the good vibes of sweeping the six picks in the Bears-Vikings to get me through the wild-card round. These deep dive previews do not write themselves, people, especially when you can talk yourself down a rabbit hole of believing silly things at times.

Just a reminder this is the timetable for how the previews move on Winners and Whiners:

Also a quick note for you, the readers of this space. First, THANK YOU for reading! Hopefully, I’ve done well enough for you to not loathe me. Secondly, I have been informed I will be handling the AFC for the postseason in a way similar to how I break down Monday night games. Thus, the timeline works like this:

WEEK 17 NFL PICKS (December 30)

This is the condensed version of picks for the NFL Week 17 games for Winners and Whiners between:

Miami Dolphins at Buffalo Bills
Chicago Bears at Minnesota Vikings
Los Angeles Chargers at Denver Broncos

Week 16 Review:

Note to self: When you here the pang of your gut, listen to your gut. Or easier translated: Sometimes the simpler narrative is the right one to follow. In last week’s case, it was the case of thinking the Raiders would respond to the potential finality of a last home game in the Oakland Coliseum and pole-axing a Denver Broncos team simply playing out the string. In some respects, the two picks I got right in that Monday night fiasco were pure luck.

WEEK 16 NFL PICKS

Buffalo Bills at New England Patriots

Week 15 Review:

If the Seahawks had won that game in overtime agains the San Francisco 49ers, I would have finished .500 for the week and not agitated. But, as the sarcastic saying goes, “If my aunt had balls, she’d be my uncle.” Therefore, I got nothing and liked it. (Spalding!)

So it’s now a two-week losing streak and I’m under the magic 52.5 percent mark for the season. I need a rally. Not a big one, mind you, but enough to get back over the hump and start getting myself in a good frame of mind for the postseason.

Once more,  I hope to return to the “Bank the Bet” podcast with Scott Steehn, which is always a good time as we break down the Monday night matchup between the Broncos and Raiders, with a potential fare thee well to the Oakland Coliseum. Scott usually finds a third to join us, and it is always a good time, and more times than not, one of us is making money from our picks, so why don’t you give a listen and get some money too!

NFL Week 15 Picks

Seattle Seahawks at San Francisco 49ers
New Orleans Saints at Carolina Panthers

The picks will be updated in stages, with Sunday’s picks coming either Saturday or Sunday morning, and then the picks for Monday night’s game coming late Monday morning or early afternoon.

Week 14 Review:

In some ways, I am not surprised I had a sub-.500 week given that I did not write any previews and felt I was on the fence for so many selections. One of the keys down the stretch is being more picky about which picks are the better picks and how to winnow out games for the “average” selections for whatever reason (i.e., changes at quarterback, coaches’ firings, injuries, etc.).

There were not many picks to be proud about, though removing the stress of watching the second half of the Chiefs-Ravens game by taking the Chiefs less than a touchdown in the first half gave me a small sense of satisfaction.

And on Monday,  I hope to return to the “Bank the Bet” podcast with Scott Steehn, which is always a good time as we break down the Monday night matchup between the Saints and Panthers. Scott usually finds a third to join us, and it is always a good time, and more times than not, one of us is making money from our picks, so why don’t you give a listen and get some money too!

WEEK 14 NFL Picks — UPDATES WITH SUNDAY PICKS!

This is the condensed version of picks for the NFL Week 14 games for Winners and Whiners between:

No previews this week.

Just a note that I did not write any previews for this weekend’s games since my liver and myself are recovering from my alma mater Marquette defeating No. 12 Wisconsin in overtime. If you ever want to lose a layer of stomach lining, I strongly suggest watching your team — which entered the game shooting 75.9 percent from the foul line — miss six consecutive free throws while trying to protect a four-point lead in overtime. Good times. Anyway, there will be some games with between two picks for all 16 games this weekend to get to a total of 20.

And while I will not be on the “Bank the Bet” podcast in which Scott Steehn, you should give a listen because Scott always gets good people on that show who make smart, winning picks. So follow Winners and Whiners on Twitter here (@WinnersWhiners) and follow me as well here @AlTruda73

Week 13 Review:

I blame my love of offense on flopping Thursday night, and not trusting in the “rust” of the Rams in the first half. I also blame Mike McCarthy for the Packers debacle. Just like everyone in Green Bay. There were two picks I was proud of — the Dolphins money line in the first half and the Jets getting six points at Tennessee before that colossal collapse.

Also, it never ceases to amaze how close to a lock is the Patriots are when giving less than a touchdown. And so it goes for this bitter Jets fan. Once more to the picks!
